Mandatory Minimum Adoption Requirements

Mandatory Meet & Greet is required before adoptions.

Our adoptable parrots must like you before placement.

You must be the head of your household to qualify for adoption.

For instance, If the past owner – or- surviving family member of the parrot request that their relinquished parrot be rehomed in a certain environment, with certain set of restrictions - NWPR is obligated to abide by their request. - “i.e.” as in - if the owner request that their parrot Not to be re-homed in a home with dogs, due the their bird being attacked by a dog in the past, we make sure the new adopter will not own a dog at the same residence *We take this responsibility seriously.

To help make sure our re-home-able parrots thrive for longevity in their new environment with their new companion, For the safety and stability of our larger parrots.

We simply ask that all applicants adopters meet the minimum 5 requirements listed below: 

  1. Housing – The applicant must be at least 26 years old and the head of the household. (No exceptions)
  2. Housing – I/We understand that it is preferred (but not mandatory) that the adopter be a homeowner. If not a homeowner- We require that the applicant must have resided at their current residence for a minimum of 18 months.
  3. Housing – I/We understand that NWPR will not place large parrots (Macaws or large Cockatoo’s) in homes that share walls with neighbors, such as apartments, condominiums, or duplexes.
  4. Housing – For the safety and stability of our larger parrots, NWPR will not place them in smaller residences such as boats, RVs, or single-wide mobile homes.
  5. Experience – NWBR requests that the applicant have a minimum of one year of recent experience with parrots. It is preferred (but not mandatory) that the applicant currently owns a parrot.
